In the spring of 2018, the life of 20-year-old Leslie Clydrian Williams, a Black/African American male from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was abruptly cut short. On the morning of March 28th, a report of an incident led the Cape Girardeau Police Department to a local apartment where a grim scene awaited them. Inside, Williams was found deceased, having succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds.
The initial hours of the investigation were cloaked in uncertainty, prompting the activation of the Cape
Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad to unravel the events that led to the young man's death. It was soon discovered that Williams was not the only victim of the violence that had transpired. Another young man, 18-year-old Quincy R. Lucious III of St. Louis, was also shot during the altercation. Lucious was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
As the Major Case Squad delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding the double fatality, a clearer picture began to emerge. Their investigation ultimately concluded that the deaths of Williams and Lucious were the result of a dispute in which both men shot one another. The tragic incident was not a random act of violence but rather a fatal confrontation between the two individuals.
In the aftermath of the shooting, a third person who was present in the apartment at the time of the incident was taken into custody. An 18-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged with tampering with evidence. According to authorities, he admitted to picking up shell casings from the scene with the intention of disposing of them later, fearing he might be implicated in the shooting. The shell casings were reportedly found in his pocket by law enforcement. There have been no widely publicized reports of any other arrests or charges in connection with the deaths of Leslie Williams and Quincy Lucious. The case stands as a somber reminder of the devastating consequences of gun violence.
