In the summer of 2020, a young man’s life was tragically cut short in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Anthony Miller, a 21-year-old male, was killed on Monday, July 20, 2020. Remembered for his infectious smile and uplifting personality, Miller was an employee at Wood Products and was known in his community as an advocate for change. Friends and family recalled his love for basketball and his impressive dance moves. He was described as an outgoing, helpful, and loving person with a great soul.
His death, which occurred as a result of gun violence, sent ripples through the community.
The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad launched an investigation into Miller's death. Their efforts led to the identification of two suspects in the case. Authorities issued warrants for 32-year-old Brandon Pratt and 28-year-old Clarence Smith, both from Cape Girardeau. Investigators were able to locate and apprehend Pratt in the early morning hours of a Friday following the incident.
Following his arrest, Brandon Pratt was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree burglary, and first-degree attempted robbery. A warrant with the same serious charges was issued for Clarence Smith, who remained at large. Law enforcement officials considered Smith to be armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach him. The Major Case Squad continued to investigate, believing that other individuals may have been involved in the crimes committed against Anthony Miller.
