On October 6, 2015, authorities in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of a body in a residential area. The victim was identified as Howard Harris Smith Jr., a 42-year-old male resident of Cape Girardeau. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene where they found Smith deceased in the yard of a property.
