In the afternoon of November 30, 2023, a burst of gunfire shattered the relative quiet of the Woodlands Apartments on Gillionville Road in Albany, Georgia. When the echoes of the shots faded, 21-year-old Tyler Graham and another young man, Neahmad Alfred, also 21, lay dead, both having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. A third individual, 19-year-old Kesha Walton, was seriously injured in the exchange. First responders arrived at the scene around 2:26 p.m. to the grim discovery, pronouncing Graham and Alfred deceased at the location.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly gained momentum as Albany police utilized surveillance footage to identify individuals connected to the shootout. This led to the arrest of 16-year-old Wy'Travion Buchanan on December 4, who was charged with two counts of murder. Another suspect, Taverance Jackson, initially considered armed and dangerous, was also apprehended. In a surprising turn, the surviving victim of the shooting, Kesha Walton, was also charged in connection with the incident after his release from the hospital.
The legal proceedings revealed that the deadly encounter stemmed from a drug deal that escalated into a violent shootout. All three suspects, Wy'Travion Buchanan, Taverance Jackson, and Kesha Walton, ultimately pleaded guilty. Each was sentenced to 35 years, with the initial 10 years to be served in prison. While the sentencings brought a degree of closure to the families of Tyler Graham and Neahmad Alfred, some relatives expressed that the punishment did not truly fit the crime of their loved ones' untimely deaths.
