Keith Williams, a 55-year-old Black man from Albany, Georgia, was killed after a violent home invasion on December 1, 2021, when two intruders forced their way into his residence, shot him, and stole alcohol before fleeing. He was left gravely wounded in the place where he should have been safest, and he later died from those injuries, turning what began as a brazen break-in into one of Albany’s homicide investigations. In the first days after the shooting, police said they were searching for two suspects, making it clear from the outset that investigators believed more than one person had taken part in the attack.
As the case moved forward, authorities began to put names to the people they believed were responsible. In 2022, Brian Rayshun Thomas was charged in connection with Williams’ death, facing felony murder and first-degree home invasion charges. That arrest suggested investigators believed the shooting was tied directly to the forced entry into the home, and it marked the first major public break in the case. A second major development came when Albany police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Lamario Cobb on a murder charge in Williams’ death. After his arrest, Cobb was taken to the Dougherty County Jail. Police also said more arrests were expected, reinforcing the belief that the killing of Keith Williams was carried out by multiple people and that investigators were still building the full picture of what happened that night.
