In the summer of 2024, a meeting arranged through an online escort service turned deadly for James Edward Murphy III, a 27-year-old Black male. The fatal encounter took place on July 27 at the Knights Inn on North Slappey Boulevard in Albany, Georgia. Murphy was discovered by police with a single gunshot wound to the neck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation that followed revealed the incident was not a straightforward arrangement but rather a setup for an armed robbery. Law enforcement officials quickly identified two individuals in connection with the crime. One of the suspects taken into custody was Murphy's own girlfriend, 28-year-old Charde'shay Jourdian King. She was apprehended at the hotel and subsequently faced charges of felony murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, and prostitution.
Through evidence gathered from video footage at the scene, authorities were able to identify a second suspect, 19-year-old Tyler Allison. He was located in neighboring Lee County. Upon the arrival of law enforcement at his location, Allison attempted to flee but was captured after a short pursuit and found hiding in a vacant residence. At the time of this incident, Allison was already out on bond for a previous aggravated assault charge. He was charged with felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and armed robbery for his involvement in Murphy's death.
