In the early evening hours of Valentine's Day, a residence in the 2300 block of Montpelier Avenue in Macon, Georgia, became the scene of a fatal shooting. On February 14, 2024, at approximately 6:10 p.m., deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the home following a 911 call reporting that a person had been shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered 49-year-old Ernestine Frye suffering from a single gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene
and transported Frye to Atrium Health Navicent for medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Ernestine Frye succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by Coroner Leon Jones. Investigators immediately began working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The investigation quickly identified a person of interest, 43-year-old April Powell of Macon. The day after the shooting, on February 15, 2024, Powell was taken into custody by investigators. Following questioning, April Powell was arrested and charged with the murder of Ernestine Frye. She was subsequently transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center where she is being held without bond.
