In the late hours of a Thursday night in Macon, Georgia, a domestic dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 21-year-old Couri Woodford Jr. on June 27, 2025. Deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the 3300 block of Majestic Lane around 11 p.m. following a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Woodford suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy coroner.
The investigation into the shooting quickly focused on a single suspect: Woodford's 43-year-old stepfather, Pierce Williams, who also went by the name Pierre. Authorities took Williams into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. Following questioning by investigators, he was formally charged with murder and booked into jail. The circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately clear to law enforcement, who began piecing together the events of that tragic evening.
In the months that followed, the legal case against Williams took an unexpected turn. In September 2025, a Bibb County grand jury reviewed the evidence presented by the district attorney's office and declined to indict Williams on a charge of felony murder. The district attorney's office cited a lack of sufficient evidence and witness cooperation as reasons for the grand jury's decision. As a result of the 'no bill,' Williams was released from jail. Despite the grand jury's decision, the District Attorney's Office has stated that the case remains open. Woodford's mother claimed her son was protecting her during the dispute that led to his death, while Williams reportedly told investigators he fired because he believed Woodford may have been reaching for a weapon.
