In the winter of 2015, the life of 19-year-old Da'Keem Raekwon Shabazz Dennison was cut short in a fatal home invasion in York, Pennsylvania. An African American male, Dennison was known affectionately as 'Keemie' to his friends and family. A 2014 graduate of William Penn Sr. High School, he had been a standout athlete, playing football, basketball, and running track.
At the time of his death, he was the father of a 2-month-old daughter, Kee'Majani.
On the night of Saturday, December 19, 2015, Dennison was inside a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue when four masked individuals forced their way in, reportedly in search of drugs and money. During the course of the home invasion, both Dennison and his cousin, Damon Banks Jr., were struck by gunfire. Dennison was rushed to York Hospital, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Banks was also injured in the attack. The four suspects fled the scene and have not been identified.
The investigation into Dennison's murder has been challenging for law enforcement, and despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved. York City Police have indicated that they believe there are individuals with knowledge of the events who have not come forward. No arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Dennison's death was part of a spike in violence in York during December 2015, a month that saw at least 16 shooting victims. His family continues to hope for justice and closure.
