In the late spring of 2023, the community of Dillon, South Carolina, was shaken by a brazen act of violence that claimed the life of a local man. Tylon McCall, a 32-year-old male, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Dillon Food Mart located on Highway 34 West. The incident cut short the life of a man who was known to many in the area and left a family to grapple with a sudden and tragic loss.
The investigation into McCall's death moved swiftly, and
authorities soon identified a suspect. Within days, the Dillon Police Department announced the arrest of 25-year-old Taquan Manning in connection with the fatal shooting. The arrest, however, brought to light a deeply concerning history for the accused. At the time of McCall's death, Manning was reportedly out on bond for a separate, previous murder charge, a revelation that stirred unease and questions within the community.
Further investigation by law enforcement revealed that Manning was also a suspect in another recent act of violence. He was wanted in connection to a drive-by shooting that had occurred just ten days prior, on May 10th, on West Hampton Street. In that incident, it is alleged that Manning fired from a vehicle at an individual who was sitting on their front porch. Fortunately, the victim in that earlier shooting was not physically harmed. Following his arrest for the death of Tylon McCall, Taquan Manning was taken into custody, facing charges for his alleged role in the deadly encounter at the Dillon Food Mart.
