An evening in Dillon, South Carolina, turned deadly for 18-year-old Keijuan Marquez Fore, a male resident of Latta. On Sunday, March 6, 2022, at approximately 8:15 p.m., a vehicle on the 100 block of West Dargan Street was riddled with bullets. Fore was struck by the gunfire and ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Dillon County Coroner confirmed that gunshot wounds were the cause of his death.
In the wake of the shooting, an extensive investigation was launched by the
City of Dillon Police Department, with assistance from the State Law Enforcement Division the Dillon County Sheriff's Office, and the Latta Police Department. Their collaborative efforts led to the identification and arrest of four suspects. Shakeem Dashawn Davis, Leon Sellers, Jr., Tyree Jamal Porter, and Devonte Raheim Page were all taken into custody and faced charges of murder and attempted murder. Porter and Page also faced an additional charge of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The investigation revealed a troubling detail: at the time of the fatal shooting, both Leon Sellers, Jr. and Devonte Raheim Page were out on bond for unrelated offenses. Sellers had been released on bond for a previous attempted murder charge, while Page was out on bond for charges of failure to stop for a blue light and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The legal process for the four accused individuals has seen at least one resolution. In August 2024, a Dillon County jury found Devonte Raheim Page not guilty of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the death of Keijuan Marquez Fore. The outcomes of the legal proceedings for the other three suspects, Shakeem Dashawn Davis, Leon Sellers, Jr., and Tyree Jamal Porter, have not been made publicly available. During a bond hearing for Leon Sellers, Jr. in September 2022, a detective stated that 35 shell casings were recovered from the scene and that a nearby home had also been struck by gunfire. The detective also mentioned that two of the four suspects had confessed, though it was stated that Sellers was not the shooter. The judge ultimately denied bond for Sellers, citing his status of being out on bond for another violent crime at the time of Fore's death and concerns for the safety of the community. The victim's parents spoke at the hearing, expressing their grief and disbelief, with his mother stating that the suspects were supposed to be his friends and that the tragedy could have been prevented.
