On August 20, 2019, Elias Dowlataram, a 5-year-old boy from York, Pennsylvania, tragically died from a gunshot wound to the head. Adrian Moye, a 27-year-old man from York, was charged in connection with Elias' death.
Moye was accused of leaving a loaded gun accessible to Elias and another 7-year-old child while he went to the front door of a residence. Surveillance video contradicted Moye's statement that he found Elias unconscious upon returning to the vehicle. Instead, the video showed Moye carrying the lifeless child to the front porch and then inside the home before eventually driving away.
Moye was charged with two felony counts of child endangerment, possession of a firearm prohibited, and possession with intent to deliver cocaine. During the investigation, police found a loaded 9mm handgun and suspected drugs at Moye's residence. Moye, who had previous felony convictions, was held without bail due to the severity of the charges and his history.
The community in York mourned the loss of young Elias, describing him as happy, energetic, and athletic. Elias' father was in shock over the death of his son, and the community planned a vigil to honor Elias' life.
