In the late summer of 2015, the city of York, Pennsylvania, was struck by a wave of violence that culminated in the tragic death of 23-year-old Andrew Jackson. On the evening of September 1st, police were dispatched to the 300 block of East Cottage Place following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival at approximately 7:55 p.m., they discovered Jackson in a hallway at 342 East Cottage Place, suffering from a fatal bullet wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
This incident marked the second homicide in the city in just four days, leaving the community on edge.
The investigation into the shooting death of Andrew Jackson quickly focused on a suspect. On September 23, 2015, York City Police announced that an arrest warrant had been issued for 23-year-old Cody Stiffler of York, who was charged with criminal homicide. Authorities warned that Stiffler should be considered armed and dangerous and appealed to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts.
The search for Stiffler concluded with his apprehension, and the legal process moved forward. In a development that avoided a trial scheduled for November 2016, Cody Stiffler, then 24 and a resident of Springettsbury Township, appeared in York County Court on October 3, 2016. He pleaded guilty to a charge of third-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Andrew Jackson. As a result of a plea agreement, a judge sentenced Stiffler to serve 15 to 40 years in prison for his role in the young man's death.
