In the spring of 2019, the life of 27-year-old Antonio Navarro-Garcia was abruptly ended on the streets of York, Pennsylvania. On the evening of May 2nd, the Hispanic male was fatally shot while inside a vehicle. The incident unfolded in the area of South Belvidere Street, and when police responded to a report of a gunshot victim, they discovered Navarro-Garcia deceased in a car on South Pershing Avenue.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to a young suspect.
Just under two weeks later, on May 15th, a 14-year-old named Christopher Johnson was taken into custody by York City Police. Authorities served a warrant at a residence on Prospect Street, where they arrested the teenager. In addition to making the arrest, police reported seizing a 9mm handgun, as well as quantities of suspected heroin and crack cocaine, and cash.
Following his arrest, Christopher Johnson was charged as an adult with a string of serious offenses. The charges included criminal homicide, criminal attempt homicide, and criminal conspiracy to commit homicide. He also faced charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and several firearms violations, including possession of a firearm by a minor and carrying a firearm without a license. Court documents filed in July 2019 indicated that the case against Johnson would proceed to trial.
