Ulysses Paul Pitts, a 42-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on January 7, 2015, in his home in Macon, Georgia. His death marked the first homicide in the city for that year. Pitts was at his residence on McCall Road with his two grandsons when the fatal incident occurred. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was pronounced dead.
The two children present in the house at the time were not physically harmed.
The investigation into the death of Ulysses Paul Pitts quickly led authorities to identify two suspects. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office issued arrest warrants for Sherod Holston, 24, and Antwan Denard Johnson, also of Macon. The motive for the killing was determined to be robbery, as money was stolen during the home invasion. The charges brought against both men included felony murder and armed robbery.
In the days following the shooting, the search for the suspects intensified. Sherod Holston ultimately turned himself in to the authorities and was booked into the Bibb County jail. The second suspect, Antwan Denard Johnson, was apprehended shortly after, following a tip to Macon Regional Crime Stoppers. He was found at the Discovery Inn on Chambers Road and arrested without incident. Johnson also had outstanding warrants for unrelated charges of family violence, terroristic threats, and cruelty to children.
