Melissa 'Missy' Worley Bryant, a 39-year-old Caucasian woman, was found deceased in her home on April 25, 2016. A devoted mother and a dedicated employee at the Clayton County Georgia Farm Bureau, she was known for her strong-willed and independent nature.
Concern grew when neither Melissa nor her husband, 37-year-old James Bryant, a former firefighter, showed up for
work that Monday morning. Co-workers, unable to reach them, went to their home on Bill Gardner Road to check on them. They discovered the garage door open and the house unlocked, prompting a call to 911 for a welfare check. What the Henry County police officers found inside was a grim scene. In a back room of the house lay the bodies of Melissa, James, and their beloved 6-year-old son, Conner Patrick.
The preliminary investigation by the Henry County Police pointed towards a devastating murder-suicide. It is believed that James Bryant shot and killed his wife and their young son before taking his own life. The motive behind the horrific act appeared to stem from a domestic dispute that may have occurred the night before. All three family members died from gunshot wounds.
