He pulled his Nissan Xterra into a spot behind an apartment complex on Lakeshore Drive, intending to listen to music and play a game on his phone before his own workday began. This brief interlude of peace was shattered in the most violent way imaginable, marking the 27th homicide in Bibb County that year.
Later that morning, just before noon, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department responded to a call about a vehicle fire at the very same apartment complex. Upon arrival, they discovered the Nissan Xterra engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, a grim discovery was made inside the vehicle. Deleon Wiley Hudson was in the driver's seat, not a victim of the fire, but of a fatal gunshot wound. An investigation revealed that a rag had been stuffed into the gas tank and set alight in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The case remained without a suspect for several months, a period of uncertainty for Hudson's grieving family and the community. A break in the case finally came in May of 2016 when a family member of Torrance Deon Rouse, then 20 years old, came forward with a crucial piece of information.
