In the fading daylight of a February evening in Macon, Georgia, the life of 45-year-old Carlos Antonio Daniels was tragically cut short. On February 20, 2021, gunshots echoed through the 300 block of Pierce Avenue. When the sound subsided, Daniels was found lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe. The following day, on February 21, 2021, Carlos Daniels died.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. In the initial stages of the inquiry, details were scarce, and authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for Daniels's death. As weeks turned into months with no arrests, the case remained a painful, unanswered question for his grieving family and the community.
To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, Macon Regional Crimestoppers announced a reward for information that would lead to an arrest. Initially set at $4,000, the reward was later increased to $10,000 as the search for answers continued. A significant breakthrough in the case finally came in February 2023. Authorities announced that they had charged a suspect in the murder of Carlos Daniels. The man charged was Charles Rowland, an individual already serving a life sentence in prison for two other murders that occurred in Twiggs County in 2021. Law enforcement officials credited anonymous tips to Crimestoppers, spurred by the offered reward, for leading them to identify Rowland as the suspect in Daniels's death.
