In February of 2016, a family dispute in Macon, Georgia, escalated to a tragic and fatal conclusion, leaving one brother dead and the other facing a murder charge. Harry Lee Williams, a 58-year-old male, was shot and killed in his home on Joseph Waller Drive. The incident, which shattered the quiet of the neighborhood, was not a random act of violence but one that authorities would soon determine had its roots within the family itself.
Investigators quickly identified the primary suspect as Harry's own brother, 62-year-old Alton Williams. Evidence gathered at the scene and through the course of the investigation led to Alton's arrest. He was subsequently charged with the murder of his younger brother. The motive for the fatal shooting, as described by a Bibb County investigator during a commitment hearing, was a heated argument over the selling of prescription pills and a dispute over a sum of money ranging from $150 to $300. It was alleged that after Harry returned from a transaction, an argument erupted between the brothers, culminating in Alton shooting Harry in the chest with a shotgun.
Following his arrest, Alton Williams was held in the Bibb County jail without bond as the legal process began to unfold. However, the case would never reach a trial. In October 2016, just months after his brother's death, Alton Williams, then 63, died while still in custody at the Medical Center, Navicent Health. The coroner listed his cause of death as respiratory failure, bringing an unexpected end to the judicial proceedings in the murder of Harry Lee Williams.
