In a tragic turn of events stemming from a years-old high school feud, 22-year-old Deonta Jerome Walker was shot and killed on March 28, 2024, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. A Black male, Walker was the victim of a fatal encounter that unfolded on Muirforest Drive, a consequence of a long-simmering dispute with a former school rival. The verbal confrontation on that fateful day escalated quickly and violently, ending a young life and forever altering another.
The feud, which began during
their high school years, pitted Walker against 18-year-old Robin Alvin Carmichael. Following the altercation that led to the shooting, an investigation was launched. On April 11, 2024, with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol S.W.A.T. team, investigators from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office arrested Carmichael at his residence in Stone Mountain. He was taken into custody without incident, a stark contrast to the violence that had occurred weeks earlier.
Carmichael now faces charges of felony murder and aggravated assault with a weapon. He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail, where he is being held without bond as he awaits legal proceedings.
