In the late summer of 2014, a Labor Day cookout in a Stone Mountain, Georgia neighborhood turned into a scene of tragedy. On the first of September, gunfire erupted from a passing vehicle on Scarborough Drive, striking two people who were enjoying the holiday festivities. Among the victims was Kardarius Collins, a 24-year-old Black male.

Collins was critically injured in the drive-by shooting and was rushed to Grady Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical profession ...
