In the late afternoon of a Tuesday in Stone Mountain, Georgia, the life of Anthony Jordan, Jr., a 29-year-old man, was brought to an abrupt and violent end. On June 12, 2018, Jordan was at a strip mall on Redan Road for a hair appointment. Around 5:15 p.m., he stepped outside the salon to take a phone call, a seemingly ordinary moment that would tragically be his last. As he stood in the bustling parking lot, a man who had been lying in wait for approximately 45 minutes in a bluish-gray or green Cadillac sedan emerged from the vehicle and opened fire.
The assailant, showing no hesitation, fired four shots in Jordan's direction. Two of the bullets found their mark, causing fatal injuries. The brazenness of the attack in broad daylight sent people in the vicinity running for cover. A stray bullet shattered the window of the hair salon, injuring one customer with broken glass and grazing another. Despite being rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, Anthony Jordan succumbed to his wounds. Investigators were initially perplexed by the motive, as there appeared to be no prior interaction between the gunman and Jordan. His family and friends were also unable to provide a reason for the senseless act.
The investigation into the murder of Anthony Jordan, Jr. led authorities to Tychicus Cameron Wilson, a 35-year-old man from California. Surveillance footage from the strip mall proved to be crucial in identifying him. The video captured Wilson arriving at the shopping center around 4:30 p.m. and waiting in his car. It also clearly showed his face when he briefly entered a convenience store to make a purchase before the shooting. This evidence, along with further police work, resulted in Wilson's arrest.
Tychicus Cameron Wilson was charged with Malice Murder, two counts of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. His trial began, and the prosecution presented all of its witnesses and evidence. In a turn of events, after the state rested its case, Wilson changed his plea from not guilty to guilty. On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Tychicus Cameron Wilson was convicted for the murder of Anthony Jordan, Jr. and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.
