On a late September evening, the life of a 23-year-old male, Dontavious Ryshaun Holsey, was tragically cut short. On September 30, 2024, in east Macon, Georgia, near the intersection of Wallace Road and Johnson Road, Holsey was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Another individual, a 17-year-old, was also shot during the incident but survived. According to Holsey's family, he had gone to meet with some people he knew through mutual acquaintances when they attempted to rob him at gunpoint. It was during this robbery that he was shot.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the homicide, which led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. In November 2024, with the assistance of the Jones County Sheriff's Office, investigators arrested 18-year-old Devin DeLoach at a residence in Jones County. Several months later, in April 2025, a tip to Macon Regional Crimestoppers led authorities to a second suspect, 20-year-old Davian Nayshuan Forney, who was apprehended in Milledgeville and extradited to Macon. Both DeLoach and Forney were charged with murder and aggravated assault for their alleged roles in Holsey's death. However, to the profound grief and devastation of Holsey's family, both suspects were later released on bond.
Known affectionately as 'Tay,' Dontavious was remembered by his family as a hardworking and ambitious young man who was actively building a future for himself. After serving in the military for about a year following high school graduation, he returned home and took a job at Georgia Pacific, often working long 12-hour shifts. Beyond his regular employment, he was an aspiring entrepreneur who was developing his own clothing line called 'MIP,' which stood for 'Money Is Poison.' His family, still grappling with the immense loss, remembers him as a loving individual who was trying to find his way and create a better life. The ongoing legal process and the fact that the accused are not in custody remain a source of significant pain for his loved ones as they continue to hope for justice.
