In the late hours of a warm August night in 2016, Darian Vashawn Brewster, a 34-year-old Black man known to his friends as 'D-Roc,' was enjoying a night out in his hometown of Macon, Georgia. After spending time at the Back Porch Lounge, he and three female companions made their way to Club Dreams, a downtown nightclub on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
