In the late afternoon of Saturday, February 25, 2023, Brice Djembissi, a 37-year-old male, was going about his work as a part-time Uber driver in Washington, D.C. At approximately 3:02 p.m., as he was dropping off a customer in the 2200 block of Savannah Street, Southeast, the street erupted in a hail of gunfire. Two other adults, a male and a female, were also caught in the crossfire. First responders arrived to a chaotic scene, finding the three victims with gunshot wounds.
They were all transported to local hospitals for treatment.
For days, Djembissi fought for his life, but his injuries proved too severe. On Friday, March 3, 2023, the Hyattsville, Maryland resident and Prince George's County teacher succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting would continue for over a year.
In a significant development, on Monday, December 9, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service arrested 21-year-old Dionzai Parker, also known as 'Moneybag Jefe,' in connection with Djembissi's murder. Parker was charged with first-degree murder while armed. The investigation revealed that the shooting was a brazen drive-by attack, with Parker and two others allegedly firing approximately 70 rifle rounds from a stolen Jeep Compass into the area near Shipley Market.
Parker's arrest was part of a larger indictment against a group associated with a crew called the 'Get Back Gang.' This indictment included four other individuals—Derrico Johnson, Ronald Henderson, Daveon Robinson, and Demarco Robinson—and was connected to a total of three homicides and another non-fatal drive-by shooting. The indictment charges Parker specifically with one count of first-degree murder while armed and two counts of assault with intent to kill for his alleged role in the incident that took Brice Djembissi's life and injured two others.
