In the early evening of Wednesday, December 20, 2023, the life of 65-year-old Lance Anthony Holmes, a Black male, was cut short by gunfire in Washington, D.C. Sixth District officers responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 6:40 p.m. and discovered Holmes inside a residence in the 2300 block of S Street, Southeast. He had sustained gunshot wounds and, despite the arrival of emergency personnel, was pronounced dead at the scene.
