In the early hours of a Saturday morning, the sounds of gunfire shattered the peace of a Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. On August 17, 2013, at approximately 12:25 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the rear of the 1500 block of 23rd Street, SE, following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Javar Robert Allen, a male resident of
Southeast, D.C. Emergency medical services personnel responded to the scene but found no signs of life. Javar Allen was pronounced dead at the location of the shooting.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. To date, the case is considered unsolved, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the murder of Javar Allen. Authorities have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. The police continue to seek assistance from the public to bring resolution to the case and provide answers for Allen's family.
