Tyreek Sheldon Moore was a 19-year-old Black/African American man from Northeast, D.C., who attended H.D. Woodson High School and was known to some as "4 Reek 2 Cro." On a memorial page, a loved one wrote, "We love u and miss u." His life was cut short in a burst of gunfire on the afternoon of Monday, January 22, 2024.
Around 3:30 p.m., Tyreek was a passenger in a Kia sedan that had been reported stolen earlier that day from Prince George's County.
He and a juvenile companion were traveling northbound in the 4600 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast, near the Deanwood Metro station, when a light-colored Acura sedan pulled up alongside them. At least one person inside the Acura opened fire on the Kia, striking both Tyreek and the other teen.
When Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived, they found the juvenile male suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Inside the Kia, officers located Tyreek, who was unconscious and not breathing. He had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to an assistant police chief, other people who had been inside the stolen Kia ran away after the shooting, and investigators sought them as potential witnesses.
The suspect vehicle was recovered the next day, unoccupied, in the Sixth District. The investigation into Tyreek Sheldon Moore's death is ongoing, and as of late January 2024, no arrests had been made. The Metropolitan Police Department offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
