In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., violence shattered the quiet of a Southeast neighborhood. On June 26, 2016, a man named Westley Blackwell, 38 years of age, was shot. The incident that would claim his life is believed to have taken place at approximately 12:05 a.m. in the 900 block of Wahler Place, SE.
Following the shooting, Blackwell was discovered inside a vehicle in the 1200 block of Valley Avenue, SE.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and he was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite the medical attention he received, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead later that same day.
The Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, seeking assistance from the public to gather any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Blackwell's death.
