In the late evening hours of January 23, 2024, tragedy struck in Southeast Washington, D.C., forever altering the lives of those who knew and loved Raymond Leon Ballard. A Black/African American male, at 59 years of age, Ballard was inside a business located on the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE when violence erupted. Just after 9 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the night, leaving Ballard with fatal injuries.
