On the evening of Friday, May 31, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the 1600 block of W Street, Southeast, Washington, D.C. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene at approximately 6:01 p.m., they discovered a grim tableau. Three adults had been struck by bullets. All three victims were quickly transported to local hospitals for medical attention.
Among the injured was 18-year-old Keith White of Southeast, D.C.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the young man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The two other victims of the shooting, an adult male and an adult female, were fortunate to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated for their wounds. The incident tragically cut short the life of a young man and left a community searching for answers.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched a full investigation into the death of Keith White. Detectives are actively seeking information from the public to help piece together the events of that fatal evening and to identify the person or persons responsible for this violent act. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the homicide. To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, the department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Mr. White's death. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue their search for justice for Keith White and his family.
