On July 19, 2022, 40-year-old William Whittington Jr. was fatally shot on the 400 block of Burbank Street, SE, Washington, DC. The incident led to the arrest of Desmond Gaskin, who was 37 years old at the time. Gaskin was charged with second-degree murder while armed, unlawful possession of a firearm with a prior conviction, first-degree theft, and several other charges.
