On a summer morning in Washington, D.C., the sounds of gunshots shattered the peace of Marvin Gaye Park. When police arrived at the 500 block of Division Avenue, Northeast, on August 13, 2024, they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Antowine Baker, a resident of Northeast, D.C. Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the killing of Antowine
Baker, a male, continued for over a year. Initially, authorities had no information about a motive or any potential suspects and sought the public's help for any information regarding the homicide. The quiet in the case was broken in September 2025 when the Metropolitan Police Department announced an arrest.
As a result of a DC Superior Court Indictment, Christian Ware was taken into custody by the MPD's Fugitive Unit on September 15, 2025. Ware has been charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with Antowine Baker's death. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the shooting and the events leading up to the incident have not yet been released to the public.
