Iyanna Jahnee Dukes, a 20-year-old woman from Austin, Texas, tragically lost her life on September 16, 2021. She was found outside an apartment complex in Northeast Austin with gunshot wounds and succumbed to her injuries shortly after police arrived. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Reagan Hill Drive.
Following the incident, the Austin Police Department launched an investigation and identified Frank Lee Nobles, Dukes' on-and-off boyfriend, as the primary suspect.
Nobles was seen leaving the scene immediately after the shooting. On November 15, 2021, Nobles was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Witnesses at the apartment complex confirmed that Dukes lived with Nobles, and their relationship was described as tumultuous.
The case went to trial, and on March 9, 2023, a Travis County jury found Nobles guilty of murder. The jury deliberated for two days after hearing testimony from both the prosecution and the defense. Travis County District Attorney José Garza stated that the conviction was a step towards holding those who commit acts of violence accountable and hoped it would bring closure and peace to Dukes' family.
