On October 22, 2019, Juwaun Robert Smith, a 23-year-old resident of Northeast Washington, D.C., was fatally shot in the 4400 block of Ponds Street NE. The incident occurred at approximately 3:52 p.m. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to reports of a shooting and found Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.
