On the evening of January 8th, 19-year-old Keith Capies returned home from work and briefly spoke with his parents before heading back outside to meet up with friends. This would be the last time his family saw him alive.
The following day, January 9, 2004, friends who had been looking for Keith made a grim discovery.
They found his body next to a trash bin behind his family's home in the 3000 block of Stanton Road, SE. He had been shot and killed.
The Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the death of the male teenager. Despite their efforts, the case grew cold over the years. Investigators learned that some neighbors recalled hearing a gunshot on the night of the incident, but no witnesses came forward with information that could lead to a suspect. The investigation has not yielded any arrests, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
The case of Keith Capies' death remains unsolved. The Metropolitan Police Department continues to ask for the public's help in gathering any information that might bring closure to his family. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his murder.
