On a Wednesday morning, December 17, 2003, in Washington, D.C., a tragic shooting claimed the life of 22-year-old Jovani Jefferson, an African-American man. The incident unfolded around 10:15 a.m. near the intersection of 51st Street and Call Place SE. Jefferson was struck in the lower back by gunfire and attempted to flee, collapsing a short distance away. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries approximately three hours later.
