In the early morning hours of October 5, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the Trinidad neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the 1600 block of Trinidad Avenue, NE, around 2:06 a.m., they discovered a chaotic and violent scene. Three individuals had been struck by bullets.
Among them was 33-year-old Najee Dickens, a male resident of the District.
Emergency services rushed all three victims to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Najee Dickens succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The two other victims, an adult male and an adult female who were with Dickens at the time of the shooting, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and were expected to survive.
