Delano Deonte Jackson, a 25-year-old Black / African American male, was found fatally shot inside a vehicle in Northeast Washington, D.C., on the evening of Thursday, November 10, 2016. The discovery was made by police officers who were called to the 3600 block of Grant Place NE in the Parkside neighborhood around 6:40 p.m. to investigate a report of an unconscious man. Upon their arrival, they found Jackson unresponsive, having sustained gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Originally from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Jackson had moved to Upper Marlboro, Maryland, about a year before his death, seeking better employment opportunities. He was a graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a degree in sports medicine and was working as an Uber driver while searching for a job in his field. Family members described him as a sweet, loving, and good-humored person with an upbeat attitude who always had a smile on his face. They were unaware of any reason why he would have been in the Parkside area, which was about 15 miles from where he was living with his aunt.
The circumstances that led to Delano Jackson's death remain unclear, and a motive for the shooting has not been publicly identified by authorities. The Metropolitan Police Department has been investigating the homicide and has sought assistance from the public, offering a substantial reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. As of now, his murder is considered an unsolved case, leaving his family and friends continuing to seek justice and closure.
