In the Park View neighborhood of Washington, D.C., on the night of March 8, 2022, the life of 56-year-old James Jackson Jr. was tragically cut short. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth District were dispatched to the 3400 block of Sherman Avenue, Northwest, around 9:50 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene.
James Jackson Jr. was found unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel from the D.C. Fire & Rescue Department were summoned to the scene, but their efforts were in vain. Mr. Jackson was pronounced dead at the location where he was found.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, responding officers apprehended a suspect. Twenty-eight-year-old Dawit Guevara of Northwest, D.C., was arrested at the scene, and a firearm was recovered. Guevara was subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the fatal shooting of James Jackson Jr.
