In the early hours of Thursday, July 2, 2020, the life of 23-year-old Zamonte Clark was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. A male, he was found by Sixth District police officers around 4:12 a.m. in the 1500 block of 25th Street, Southeast, unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene and found no signs of life.
Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.
Known to his friends and family as 'Tae' or 'Reptile,' Zamonte was a well-known figure in the local dance community, described as a 'DMV dance legend.' His passion for dance was evident as a member of several crews, including RAW Element, The Force, Genocide, and DistrictBros. They often performed at public spaces like the Gallery Place Metro Station and outside the White House, with Zamonte dreaming of becoming a dancing phenomenon. He was a graduate of the Woodstock Job Corps and had held various jobs, most recently at a Dollar Tree. His family remembered him as a 'very special person with a big heart' who was a 'big kid at heart,' especially when spending time with his younger cousins and showing off his dance moves.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the shooting. At this time, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or identified suspects in the case. The department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Zamonte Clark's death. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward and contact the police.
