In the pre-dawn hours of Friday, February 10, 2023, a tragedy unfolded in Southeast Washington, D.C., that ended the life of Thomas Goodman, a 42-year-old Black male. At approximately 2:57 a.m., officers from the Sixth District of the Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 1700 block of Minnesota Avenue, Southeast, following a report of a shooting.
The normally quiet street became a scene of urgency and concern as law enforcement arrived.
Upon their arrival, the officers discovered Mr. Goodman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical services were promptly called to the location, and he was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the injuries he sustained proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The incident was one of two separate fatal shootings that occurred just a few blocks apart in the Anacostia area within hours of each other.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Thomas Goodman's death. As of now, no information regarding any suspects or arrests has been publicly released. The police department is urging anyone with information about the case to come forward and has offered a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide.
