In the late hours of a Saturday in Washington, D.C., the life of 36-year-old Marcus Wallace was tragically cut short. On November 21, 2020, at approximately 9:05 p.m., police responded to the sound of gunfire in the 1400 block of L Street, Southeast. Inside a residential building, they discovered Wallace suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the quick response of D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services, he showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the male's death led to an arrest the following month. On December 23, 2020, members of a fugitive task force apprehended 21-year-old Antonio Deshaun Gladden of Southeast, D.C. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed. However, the case against Gladden did not proceed, and prosecutors later dismissed the charges against him, leaving the murder of Marcus Wallace officially unresolved.
The story, however, did not end there. Wallace's death is believed to have sparked a chain of violent retribution. Less than two months after his killing, on January 19, 2021, 34-year-old Tyrone Wright was shot and killed in what authorities have described as a revenge killing. Investigators alleged that Marcus Wallace's own brother, Ronald Wallace, 48, along with his cousin Deangelo Glover, 30, targeted Wright under the belief that he was responsible for Marcus's murder. Both Ronald Wallace and DeAngelo Glover were later charged with first-degree murder while armed for the death of Tyrone Wright, adding another grim chapter to a story that began with the unsolved killing of Marcus Wallace.
