In the afternoon of Friday, May 6, 2022, Rashad DeMaris Davis, a 32-year-old man from Southeast Washington, D.C., was fatally shot in the Fairlawn neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 4:29 p.m. in the 2300 block of Nicholson Street, SE. When members of the Sixth District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Davis suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded but found no signs of life.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born on July 29, 1989, in Washington, D.C., Rashad grew up in the Trinidad neighborhood. He was a father to three sons, DeMaris, Makel, and Rashad Jr. In his youth, he was a passionate football player, serving as the quarterback for the Massanutten Military Academy's team. He remained an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers throughout his life. At the time of his death, he was working two jobs, as a cook and a construction laborer, to support his family. Those who knew him remembered his dazzling smile and his love for family and life.
The investigation into Rashad Davis's death was handled by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch. Initially, the police sought the public's assistance in gathering information regarding the homicide and offered a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The case progressed, and on September 22, 2022, an arrest was made.
Detectives from the MPD arrested 31-year-old Marcus Barringer of Southeast, D.C., in connection with the fatal shooting. Barringer was subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed for his alleged role in Rashad Davis's death. The case was officially closed with this arrest.
