An evening in Washington, D.C. turned tragic, marking the premature end of a young life. On Friday, October 25, 2024, at approximately 5:47 p.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the air in the 3700 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest. A Fourth District officer on patrol heard the shots and promptly responded to the 800 block of Quincy Street, Northwest.
There, the officer discovered 18-year-old Hazma Jamil Mubah-Wrotten, a male from Clarksburg, Maryland, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services transported Mubah-Wrotten to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries three days later, on Monday, October 28, 2024, and was pronounced dead. The Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting.
The investigation led to a significant development months later. On Friday, January 31, 2025, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male from Northwest, D.C. in Maryland, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court custody order. The following day, the teenage suspect was extradited to Washington, D.C. He was taken to the Juvenile Processing Center and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.
