In the late hours of the Fourth of July in 2023, a day typically marked by celebration, tragedy struck in Northwest Washington, D.C. Just before midnight, the sound of gunfire pierced the air in the 3500 block of 13th Street, Northwest. When officers from the Fourth District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene at approximately 11:58 p.m., they discovered a young man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Jesse Benitez, a male
resident of Northwest, D.C. Emergency medical services responded quickly and transported him to a local hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention and all life-saving efforts, Jesse Benitez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The cause of his death was officially ruled a homicide.
In the aftermath of the shooting, detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Benitez's death. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible. As part of their investigation, police have indicated they are looking for a dark-colored, four-door Kia that may be connected to the incident.
