In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Washington, D.C., the life of 19-year-old Ronnie Scharrod Edon of Forestville, Maryland, was tragically cut short. On October 7, 2014, at approximately 1:36 a.m., officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the 2600 block of Wade Road, Southeast.
A subsequent search of the area led them to the 2600 block of Birney Place, Southeast, where they discovered Edon suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene but found no signs of life. The young Black man was pronounced dead at the location of the shooting. His body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of his death. The incident was investigated by the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department.
In the wake of the shooting, police appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Edon's death. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for such information. However, in the initial stages of the investigation, authorities reported that they had no suspects in custody and had not identified any persons of interest in connection with the fatal shooting. The case remains a somber reminder of the gun violence that affects the community.
