In the late afternoon of Saturday, October 26, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast, in Washington, D.C. When officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene around 3:37 p.m., they found a young Black man, 24-year-old Joevontae Ramsey, unconscious and not breathing, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported Ramsey to a local hospital in a
desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, Joevontae Ramsey succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The initial joy of a weekend afternoon had irrevocably turned to tragedy for the Ramsey family and the Southeast, D.C. community.
In the wake of the fatal shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Detectives began to piece together the events that led to the death of the young man from Southeast, D.C. As of now, the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this violent crime.
