On a Wednesday evening in New Haven, Connecticut, tragedy struck. Ramon Terelle Yates, a 25-year-old Black / African American male, was found with gunshot wounds on Dixwell Avenue, near the intersection with West Hazel Street. The call came in to police at 6:35 p.m. on March 15, 2023. Emergency services rushed him to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of his critical injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Ramon Yates succumbed to his injuries two days later, on
Friday, March 17, 2023. His death marked the city's sixth homicide of the year. In the wake of the shooting, New Haven police detectives from the Major Crimes Division and personnel from the Bureau of Identification began an investigation, collecting evidence and canvassing the area for potential witnesses and any available video surveillance.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting death of Ramon Yates, and no arrests have been announced. The New Haven Police Department has appealed to the public for assistance, asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact their detectives or to use the department's anonymous tip line.
