On July 31, 1901, at approximately midnight, Patrolman Hugh McKeon, a 15-year veteran of the New Haven Police Department, was fatally shot while executing a raid at 12 Prindle Street, a location suspected of being a house of ill repute. Accompanied by Officer Turbett, McKeon approached the establishment and identified themselves as law enforcement officers.
